Zenodo is a free general-purpose repository, originally developed under the European OpenAIRE program and operated by CERN. You can publish your data easily and get a persistent identifier (DOI) for your dataset. You can also publish other content types such as posters, presentations and software and curate your own community.
Signing in
Uploading datasets
- Select Upload from the top menu
- Click New Upload
- Drag and drop your files or click Choose files. The maximum size per dataset is 50 GB

- If you want to post your upload into a community, type the community name. Your upload will be checked by the community manager
- Choose the upload type (Dataset)
- If your dataset doesn’t have a DOI yet, create one by clicking Reserve DOI. This is highly recommended because DOIs are persistent identifiers and they allow others to easily cite your work
- Enter other required details such as Publication date, Title, Authors and Description
- Choose the Access Rights from the following options:
- Open Access: anyone can access the dataset immediately
- Embargoed Access: anyone can access the dataset after a specified embargo date
- Restricted Access: you can grant access to the dataset on request
- Closed Access: only you can access the dataset
- If you choose Open Access, you also need to choose a Creative Commons license. Read more about CC licenses here
- Add additional information
- Click Publish to publish your dataset immediately or Save to save your dataset for later editing
Creating and managing communities
- Select Communities from the top menu
- Click New
- Enter the details such as Identifier, Title, Description and Curation Policy
- Click Create
- You can now access and curate your community from Communities: My communities
