IT Databases

These databases index journals articles, newsletters, books, documents, and dissertations related to Information Technology. Each index has a very different focus and scope, so please read the descriptions carefully to find the right database for your search. A proper search on most topics will include the use of multiple databases. For help with using any of these resources, please contact me.

Academic Search Ultimate This link opens in a new window
This is a great place to begin your search. The database provides full text for more than 4,500 journals, at least 3,700 of which are peer-reviewed. Although the focus is not on Communications and Media, you will find many articles on these topics.

ACM Digital Library
Computer Science Bibliographic collection from major publishers in computing with over 750,000 entries.
ACM Guide to Computing Literature
The Guide is a collection of bibliographic citations and abstracts of works published by ACM and other publishers. More than 1.2 million citations from 3,000+ publishers, including ACM, covering books, journal articles, conference proceedings, doctoral dissertations, master's theses, and technical reports.
Applied Science & Technology Source
This database offers a diverse array of full-text and indexed content that covers the full spectrum of the applied sciences and computing disciplines—from acoustics to aeronautics, and neural networks to nuclear engineering.
Business Source Complete
Business Source Complete is a full text business database, providing full text for over 10,000 scholarly business journals, including more than 1,150 peer-reviewed business publications.

Ei Compendex is the broadest and most complete engineering literature database that provides a holistic and global view of peer-reviewed and indexed publications with over 20 million records from 77 countries across 190 engineering disciplines. Every record is carefully selected and indexed using the Engineering Index Thesaurus to ensure discovery and retrieval of engineering-specific literature.

IEEE Xplore Digital Library
Featuring content from IEEE, as well as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the IEEE/IET Electronic Library (IEL) contains one-third of the world’s current literature in electrical engineering, communications, and computer science.
JSTOR
Covers Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences - 100% full text. This is a unique digital archive of over 100 core scholarly (very academic) journals covers material from the 1600s up to a 'moving wall' of between 1 and 8 years before current publication.
LexisNexis Academic
News, business, legal and medical/health subject areas covered. 100% full text. Updated by the minute, full-text, news archive (information from newspapers, news magazines and news broadcasts).
ProQuest
All subjects are included in this easy-to-use database. Selected full text includes Business, Education, Psychology, Academic Research, Careers, Computing, Science and General Reference.
ProQuest Computing
Search top computing journals in full text for research on subjects such as database design, software development, web commerce, LANs, WANs, Intranets, and the Internet.
ScienceDirect
A full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from more than 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 11,000 books.

Scopus
An abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and selected web sources with tools to track, analyze and visualize research.
Taylor & Francis Online This link opens in a new window
Taylor & Francis Online is the journal content platform for the Taylor & Francis Group. The platform gives online access to all journals from Taylor & Francis and Routledge. As well as traditional journals, Taylor & Francis Online also hosts three abstract and indexing databases: Routledge Educational Research Abstracts Online, Research into Higher Education Abstracts and Studies in Women and Gender Abstracts, as well as 19 distinguished encyclopedias in three main collections: Agropedia, chemistry and engineering, and business and communication.
