Developing Your Profile

It is important to manage your research profile. What does this mean exactly? You want to ensure that your scholarship and published research is identified with you. This can be a challenge, especially for those with similar (or the same) names to others. When possible, be consistent in the use of your name and use a version that can be identified with only you.

Create a profile and keep it current.

Sites that you can use include the following:

Academia.edu
Share your papers, see analytics on your profile and papers and follow others in your field of expertise.
Google Scholar Citations
Google Scholar Citations provide a simple way for authors to keep track of citations to their articles. You can check who is citing your publications, graph citations over time, and compute several citation metrics. You can also make your profile public, so that it may appear in Google Scholar results when people search for your name, e.g., richard feynman.
International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI)
"The mission of the ISNI International Authority (ISNI-IA) is to assign to the public name(s) of a researcher, inventor, writer, artist, performer, publisher, etc. a persistent unique identifying number in order to resolve the problem of name ambiguity in search and discovery; and diffuse each assigned ISNI across all repertoires in the global supply chain so that every published work can be unambiguously attributed to its creator wherever that work is described."
Mendeley
This is a site for managing and sharing research papers, discovering research and identifying potential collaborators. (A part of Elsevier)
ORCID
ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.
ResearchGate
A social networking site for scientists and researchers. Use this to share papers, ask and answer questions and find potential collaborators.
Scopus
Scopus has a unique Author ID, allowing you to highlight your publication profile and citation metrics in your Author Profile.
It is advisable to check the instructions to insure that your profile is correct (and merging profiles as needed).
