Fixing Common Access Issues

I am off-campus. How will I know if my connection is under our proxy server?

  • To know whether you are accessing a proxied link, check the URL of the page. You will notice that Zayed University proxied URL have “zulib.idm.oclc.org”

Example: https://search-proquest-com.zulib.idm.oclc.org/abicomplete/index?accountid=15192

I searched Quickfind and found an article, but when I clicked the full-text link, the link directed me to a blank page, or the article was unavailable.

  • There are various reasons why article full-text links do not work when searching Quickfind. If you encounter this problem, please report it to the library so we can investigate further.

I cannot download an article, or I am asked to pay for an article.

  • If you encounter this issue when you are on campus, please request the article via Interlibrary loan.
  • If you encounter this issue when you are off-campus, please check if you are connected to EZProxy. If you confirm that you are accessing the article under proxy but still cannot download the article, please request the article via Interlibrary loan.

I cannot download an ebook from Ebook Central (EBC). What shall I do?

  • You need to create an account in Ebook Central using your ZU email to download an ebook.

I downloaded an ebook from EBC, but it is not opening. How do I open it?

  • It would help if you had Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to open ebooks downloaded from Ebook Central. ADE is free software that is available on the Adobe website

Fixing Common Error Messages

Error Message: "Access to the website is blocked by your administrator. Please notify your systems administrator."

  • The ZU library is now using EZProxy to access the resources off-campus. This error occurs when users access the library website via Extranet. Thus, you should always start your search via the library homepage, A-Z database list, or full-text journal search.

Error Message: "Your connection is not private."

  • Sometimes SSL certificates are expired, missing, or the browser is not updated, that is why we encounter this problem. To overcome this, try the following:
  1. Clear your cache/cookies
  2. Use Incognito or private window mode
  3. Use another browser

Error Message: "Your institution does not have access rights to this item."

  • If you are authenticated as a ZU user and the link directs you to this error page, that means that there is a match, but ZU does not subscribe to the database. In this case, submit an e-resources problem report so the library can investigate the issue.

Error Message: "Error 404 - The page you are trying to reach cannot be found."

  • This error message is common when the platform's server is down, or it is a broken link. Report the problem to the library immediately. Or, view the page after a few minutes to check if access has been restored.

Error Message: "Error 502 - Bad Gateway."

  • This error message is common when there's a server communication problem. You can try the suggestions below or Report the problem to the library immediately.
    • Refresh your browser
    • Clear your cache
    • View the page after a few minutes to check if access has been restored

Error Message: "Sorry we weren't able to identify your library."

  • This error message usually occurs when you access e-resources off-campus. It means that you are not logged in to the EZProxy that is why the portal does not recognize your access. Ensure that you access the ZU e-resources through the library homepage, A-Z database list, and full-text journal search.
